NESREA to implement national vehicular emission scheme

The
agencies that would involve in the implementation include Nigeria
Customs Service, the Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the
Vehicle Inspection Officers and National Union of Road Transport Workers
that doubles as members of its board.

The programme, which is already implemented in developed countries will help reduce organic pollutants in stationary and mobile vehicles.
He also expressed his delight that the first pilot phase which has taken them months of careful planning, would commence in Abuja, the Federal Capital, before the nationwide launch.
“This is going to involve a lot of public enlightenment and sensitization to ensure the success of the programme. This is in collaboration with other sectors of the government. We are convinced that by full participation the success of this programme is guaranteed,” he added.
Dr. Anukam further explained that what is needed is proper enforcement to ensure that the level of emission is brought under control. “The operational guidelines and regulations are now in place for the smooth conduct of this programme”.
